I was in the studio with a client a while ago when their human asked me “Do you have any bow ties?”
Gentle reader, I have backdrops. I have squeaky toys in every configuration known to dog-kind. I have flower crowns and bubbles. But a bow tie? For a dog? On hand, ready to go? Nope, I had none.
So I did what any reasonable pet photographer does when faced with a gap in her prop closet: I panicked mildly, then went on my search.
A couple weeks later and I’m setting up my booth at the Denver Dog Fair. Just across the way was another business setting up and on display - like they'd been waiting for me - were the most beautifully made little bow ties I'd seen. Introducing Buddy Bows.
Peter and Michelle created Buddy Bows as a joint effort. Supervised by their ever-watchful pack, I got to see where the magic happens — their workroom, where every single Buddy Bow is cut, sewn, and finished by hand. No factory, no mass production, just genuinely sweet people making genuinely good things for people's dogs. The team consists of Mr. Yoshi, a long-haired Dachshund (stock manager), Mr. Tenshi, a big mutt (head of production), Mr. Inu, a little mutt (marketing), and Mr. Kenji, the 4 year old baby long-haired Dachshund (data entry).
It all started in early 2024 when Peter was greeted by one of Michelle's dogs wearing a bow tie she had sewn. Ever the crazy dog dad, Peter became obsessed with the bow ties. Turns out, he wasn't the only one. Literally every person who encountered them commented on how adorable they were. That's when Peter had a light bulb moment that would eventually take Michelle's passion for sewing and Peter’s dream of building a pet product brand to the next level by starting Buddy Bows. Now Peter and Michelle are living their best lives, giving their pack their best lives, and making dogs everywhere look smart and stylish.
