Rock Star Finn at Red Rocks
I need to tell you about Finn. He barely made it in as April’s Pet of the Month, but he did it. And by the fur of his tail, quite literally.
We had an original plan to have a photo session for Finn in May. This was the plan. The plan was good. Until the universe had a quick look at it, and said “Nope”, and made a note in the margin.
Finn is by nature an Adventure Cat. He goes on hikes, joins his mom on errands, loves a show at Red Rocks - his favorite rock star? Cat Power of course. J/K - but he is not a cat who wants to stay at home napping. His happy place is on the center console of the car, seeing the world.
So that was the plan, until the universe delivered on that note: Finn’s vet found a tumor on his tail. It would need to go. The whole tail. Finn’s entire, excellent, expressive, orange, ringed tail.
When Finn’s mom learned the surgery date, she called me and we did what any reasonable team would do, we moved everything up. She wanted photos of all of him, especially his tail, before the surgery.
The photo session was on a Thursday. (Almost forgot to mention also it was his birthday.)
His surgery was the next day. (It went well!)
Hidden inside those statements is an entire emotional rollercoaster. We had one evening with Finn and his magnificent tail at Red Rocks, and we made it count. To Finn, it was just another Thursday evening hike, he was unruffled about the whole thing.
And we got fantastic photos of this adventurous, brave, rock star of a cat, and his excellent tail. Just in the nick of time.
